Granola is probably the thing I’ve made most consistently over the years in my kitchen and I realized recently that I’ve never shared my recipe. I truly don’t know how this is possible, as I’ve shared my favorite recipes for bread, yogurt and so many of my kitchen favorite. This homemade granola recipe is easy, adaptable and can be made in the background while I make other things (yes this is my favorite way to manage a homestead kitchen)!

Ingredients for my Homemade Granola Recipe
The best part of this recipe is that you don’t need to stick to the same ingredients every week to make things a little more interesting and over time you can adapt your homemade granola recipe for exactly what you prefer. Here are the ingredients I use every week:
- 4 Cups Oats
- 1 1/2 cups Nuts and Seeds (Pumpkin Seeds, sunflower seeds, chopped or sliced almonds or pecans)
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (or honey)
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1 tsp vanilla Extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbl Flour
Optional add Ons
I use the base ingredients above and then alternate other ingredients as I have them available or simply to make the recipe a little different each week. It’s so fun and easy to experiment. You can also adjust the amount of liquid in the recipe above depending on whether you prefer a sweater or more simple granola

How to Eat Granola
Do you really need a section for this?
But seriously, there are some many ways to use granola that I figured I would share a few. Our favorite way is to eat granola with yogurt or a little milk, but I also like to use it in lots of other ways:
Everyday Ways
- With yogurt (Greek, vanilla, coconut — any kind!)
- With milk (like cereal)
- Sprinkled on oatmeal for extra crunch
- Mixed into a smoothie bowl
Topping Ideas
- On fresh fruit (berries, bananas, apples)
- On cottage cheese
- On chia pudding
Snack-Style
- By the handful as a trail-mix snack
- Mixed with nuts & dried fruit for homemade trail mix
- Pressed into bars or clusters
Fun & Creative Ways
- On ice cream or frozen yogurt
- As a crunchy topping for muffins
- Layered in parfaits
- As a base layer for baked apples
- Over a salad for a sweet crunch (especially with goat cheese + apple)
- Sprinkled over pancakes or waffles
Savory (Yes!)
- Use a lightly sweet granola as a topping for roasted vegetables
- Sprinkle over butternut squash soup for texture
- Add to an autumn charcuterie board for crunch
